The Royal Hippodrome theatre opened in 1883 as the New Theatre Royal and Opera House, it changed to the Royal Hippodrome in 1904 following refurbishment. A phantom woman is said to haunt the stage area and has also been spotted sitting in the grand circle. A man was spotted on the fly floor during the 1990s who vanished without trace.
