Wheatsheaf Hotel
NEWPORT, ISLE OF WIGHT

This ancient coaching inn is haunted by the tragic young bride of a dashing young officer killed in a duel at Carisbrooke Castle in 1813. The mortally wounded man was taken to his death-bed in a first-floor room at the inn, where he breathed his last. The couple had been married just a few days, and his widow was beside herself with grief. It is believed to be her shade which haunts that bedroom, sitting on the end of the bed, as if in prayer.
