Beaulieu Abbey
BEAULIEU, HAMPSHIRE

Beaulieu Abbey was founded in 1204 by Cistercian monks on land given to them by King John. Although much was destroyed at the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries during the reign of Henry VIII, the Abbey is still reputed to be one of Britain's most haunted places. Strange apparitions have been seen, heard and sensed here for over a hundred years, with ghostly monks, strong smells of incense and a Grey Lady thought to be Isabella, Countess Beaulieu, who died in 1786.
