Tregarden Manor
NR ST. MABYN, CORNWALL

The magnificent Tregarden Manor House hails from the 16th century, built in a typical Cornish style. One of the owners, the Godolphins, took a passionate part of the English Civil war. Earlier it hosted the plotting of some of those heroic but hopeless Cornish marches against their English oppressors which usually ended with their leaders being hung or worse. In the more quiescent times since, it has remained Cornish owned, within its 1100 acre estate which has recently been carefully restored with the help of English Heritage. It is 1/3 mile down an unsurfaced track about a mile outside the quaint village of St. Maybn. A 17th Century arched gateway leads through the high walled garden while much of the original house remains with occasional Victorian influences. Today, the house is regularly used for several residents but also open to the general public to hire for private events and holidays. Recent Supernatural and paranormal activity in the property have included cold spots, furniture moving on its own, footsteps and mysterious banging heard throughout. Children are said to get upset and will not stay in a particular room while windows have been known to open by themselves and kitchen utensils have been seen to 'walk' across the worktops.
