Seaforth House
SLIGO BAY, COUNTY SLIGO
This lonely ruin overlooking Sligo Bay was once the ancestral home of the Phibbs family, a wealthy bunch who liked collecting things. The trouble started
when one Owen Phibbs (1842-1914) decided to decorate the drawing room with mummies from various excavations he had made in Egypt. The household
became plagued by malicious poltergeist activity: tall dark shadows followed the gardener; a strange, evil figure would appear on the stairway at night;
terrible loud crashes were heard, and broken pottery and ornaments would be found the next morning. The servants got rattled, and left. The family got
the Jesuits in to say mass, but to no avail. They eventually sold the place, and it was abandoned for good in the 1940s.
