Plas Teg
NR. MOLD, FLINTSHIRE
Imposing Plas Teg, near Mold, is a stately home with a history dating back 400 years, and is thought to be one of the most haunted houses in Britain. It is
said to be occupied by a number of spirits, including the ghost of the notorious "Hanging Judge Jeffreys". The eerie but magnificently attractive Grade II
listed 17th century Jacobean mansion was built in 1610 by Sir John Trevor. Plas Teg served as Sir John’s country seat and was intended chiefly for lavish
entertainment for the rich and important of 17 th Century high society. Even in Sir John’s time there were stories of the paranormal, one concerning a the
gatekeeper that lived in a lodge by the front gateway (no longer in existence). There he reported that he sighted a ghost, and not long after he had seen
this apparition he is said to have hanged himself in the gate lodge. Another well known ghost associated with Plas Teg is that of a young girl, who it is said
was tragically killed sometime in the 17th Century while attempting to escape an enforced marriage. Feminine footsteps have often been heard on the
second floor, although much heavier, masculine steps have also been heard. The most haunted room in the building is known as The Twin Poster room,
and it is said that strange glowing white lights have been seen passing by the window of this room when the house has been deserted.
