Culzean Castle is one of the major tourist attractions in Scotland. The castle was built in 1772-1790 for the 10th Earl of Cassillis on a cliff-top. There has been a castle on these cliffs overlooking the Firth of Clyde since as early as 1165. The Kennedy Clan has been associated with the area since the late 12th century, descendants from the Earls of Carrick. In 1945 the 5th Marquess and Kennedy culfamily gave the castle and estate to the care of the National Trust For Scotland. Its most famous features are the Oval Staircase and Circular Saloon, while it contains a good collection of pictures and 18th-century furniture, together with an armoury, set up in the 19th century. Legend has it the castle is haunted by a knight, said to be the spirit of Sir John Cathcart who abducted May Kennedy and planned to kill her but luckily for May, she managed to push him off the cliff tops near Carelton Castle. Another ghostly visitor is the piper who used to play in celebration of clan weddings. He can be heard playing on stormy nights. A mystery woman dressed in a ballgown has also been spotted in the castle grounds. Several sightings have been reported of a "peculiar misty shape" moving up the famous oval staircase. Apparently the staff at the castle are briefed about "a wee ghost" near the dungeon.

The investigation began in the reception room where Derek was made aware of minstrel music being played. Proceeding to the Earl’s bedroom he picked up on the presence of a woman connected with the name “Cassillis”. Derek then apparently connects with the man who re-engineered the architecture of the castle, Robert Adam, while a female spirit connected to the name ‘Kennedy’ is also forthcoming. Derek then refers to the sound of pipe music associated with a piper called ‘Donald McGregor’. Derek also connects with the possibility that the area was host to witchcraft activities in the past. When the night vigils begin a connection is made by Derek with the voices of American women while he also picks up on the presence of a military man known as ‘Dwight’ (it in believed that Dwight Eisenhower had once resided in the castle). Upon separating into smaller groups the girls find themselves experiencing a number of orbs in the Earl’s Bedroom which seem to materialise when Yvette asks them to do so, and of particular interest in a large light anomaly which could be more seriously interpreted as the part-manifestation of a spirit as the light seems to take greater form than that of a typical orb.
