Series Two of Most Haunted opens with the investigation of a disused church which occupies the upper floors of Brannighans nightclub in Manchester. The building was formerly a Methodist Church run by the Rev. Samuel Collier who is responsible for much of the reported poltergeist activity that takes place. One theory is that as the building was once a Methodist Church, where the use of alcohol was not encouraged, it may be that Rev. Collier is protesting against it’s current use as a nightclub through the various actions that have been reported. History also shows that in 1819, the year of the Battle of Peterloo, a number of people were killed on the site during a protest about tax increases.

The investigation begins with an exploration of the upper floors. Derek initially talks about his feeling that the building was based on foundations where vast numbers of people had lost their lives many years previously. Upon entering the tower area he picks up on a malevolent spirit going by the name of Godfrey, while he also connects with some children. After leaving the tower some strange sounds are picked up coming from that area. Within the old projector area further strange sounds are picked up. Upon returning to the tower the team pick up on the smell of ‘baby sick’ at which point Derek refers some children’s names he believes are connected to the building, while the surname ‘Parkes’ is revealed in connection to Godfrey. He is apparently a grounded in the atmosphere, and moments later Derek appears to be possessed by the aforementioned entity portraying in graphic detail the evil nature of the spirit, moving around the room between the crew aggressively making his point that the building belongs to him. Interesting evidence is picked up after the investigation from the Dictaphone placed in the tower, where unexplained noises similar to those of a child singing appear to be heard. During the séance at the end of the vigil further unexplained noises similar to shuffling footsteps are caught on tape along with a mysterious howling wind, while Cath suggests she has felt something touch her shoulder.
