The Skirrid Inn  ABERGAVENY, WALES
Series 2 Episode 4
First Aired: April 29th 2003
Location Background

The Skirrid Inn was once both a courthouse and a place if execution. The oldest pub in Wales has a gruesome history, in which more than 100 people hanged in the stairwell, condemned by the merciless Judge Jefferies. The pub's history can be traced back beyond the Norman conquest. It is said that in 1110 a court was convened to try two brothers, James Crowther for a violent robbery, John for stealing sheep. James was sentenced to nine months prison while his brother was hanged from a beam at the inn. Strange phenomena has been reported in the Inn on many occasions, specifically accounts of constriction to the throat and unexplained burn marks on the neck.

Brief Episode Synopsis

The investigation began in the Bar where Derek picked up on the energies of a ‘White Lady’ as well as a clergyman, Father Henry Vaughn, who he believes blesses the location. Above the fireplace Derek is drawn to a silver tankard, referring to it as a ‘Devil’s Cup’, named as such because people would drink from it to help appease the Devil. Derek also connects with other energies, revealing the names ‘Fanny’ and ‘Price’. When the team move to the stairway where hangings used to take place, Derek picks up on the specific name ‘John Crowther’ and that this man was hung for stealing sheep. The team progress to one of the upstairs rooms where Derek senses the Judge would have held court. Derek also reveals that the name ‘Price’ would have connections to the graveyard, where three are buried. The most significant activity of the night occurs during the vigils, when Richard and Karl witness a door apparently appearing to open of its own accord. Later in the night the team investigate the graveyard, where gravestones to the Price family are discovered just as Derek has indicated.
