The Muckleburgh Collection  WEYBOURNE, NORFOLK
Series 3 Episode 9
First Aired: December 2nd 2003
Location Background

The Muckleborgh Collection stands on the site of Weybourne Camp, a military installation on the North Norfolk Coast. It is the UK's largest collection of military vehicles still in private hands and consists of more than 120 tanks, vehicles and guns. The heart of the museum is based in the old Naafi building, the only surviving original structure. Weybourne Camp was originally used as an Anti-Aircraft Artillery training range. Facing German-occupied Europe during WWII, the Norfolk coastline became a controlled zone by the British forces. This controlled zone extended 10km deep into the North Sea around Norfolk. Weybourne Camp was a vital part of this zone. Although mainly associated with the war, the area occupied by the camp has a history dating back even further. Norfolk was one of the main landing grounds for Viking raiders, the nearby steeply raked beaches were perfect landing sites for their longships. Continuing the military connection it also has within the grounds a rare example of a WWI pillbox. The site has a number of reputed hauntings. Lights have been seen over the artillery practice range, footsteps heard and cold spots felt in one of the corridors and mysterious shadows seen in the main hall.

Brief Episode Synopsis

Derek's walk around begins in the Tank Hall where he senses activity around one particular tank, linked to an American soldier. He then links in with an adjoining corridor where he believes a dark shadowy spirit would roam, and he also feels that this man would have taken a woman's life, and he would still try to startle people by making a hissing or growling sound. Moving into the corridor Derek senses a vortex through which spirits would pass, while he also feels this dark entity would be seen as a shadowy shape in this area. Connecting with a proud man he enters the Office at which point Derek feels this man's energies joining them. He links with the name of this man's friend, Douglas Bader, as well as the book on the desk which would have belonged to this man (Berry Savory). He suggests that Berry is displeased that he is sometimes confused for the dark shadowy figure, after which Derek momentarily appears to become possessed by this man, sitting in his chair. Derek also links in with 6 brave young women who would have lost their lives defending their country. Moving on to the Ambulance Hall Derek senses a man named Robert who is grounded here and active around the vehicle. Meanwhile off camera in the restaurant a loud rattling sound is heard which appears to unsettle Holly, the resident dog. The team then move outside to the Pillbox where Derek connects with these 6 ladies again, believing that they would have lost their lives here, but when they return in visitation people would often see strange shooting lights in this area. The vigils commence with Yvette and Derek in the Office, where a light anomaly is captured and Derek links in with a missing picture on the wall, believing Berry to have once pulled a replacement picture down in anger. Meanwhile Rick, Karl and Phil investigate one of the tanks, where a single light anomaly is captured. Meanwhile historian Neil suggests that he has also seen the figure of a man off camera. Rick and Phil then move on to the Ambulance Hall where they experience icy cold spots, noises and clear footsteps from behind one of the vehicles. They are later joined by the rest of the crew, and while asking out for Robert to make himself known a number of strange noises are clearly heard, while Phil suggests something had touched his shoulder. The night concludes with Karl hearing clear and loud footsteps from the corridor while he is alone inside one of the tanks. He quickly exits to find that nobody is around.
