Manor House Restaurant  WEST BROMWICH, WEST MIDLANDS
Series 4 Episode 12
First Aired: June 8th 2004
Location Background

The Manor House is listed in the Domesday Book under the possessions of William Fitz Ansculf (The Baron of Dudley). It is believed that the Manor was built in 1230, and restored between 1957 and 1965. In 1713 the house was bought by Sir Samuel Clarke, and finally sold up in 1823 to the Earl of Dartmouth, James Smith. It was then that the building began to fall into a state of disrepair. On his death in 1829 it was passed on to his trustees and by 1836 was converted into flat-lets where three families lived until the 1880s. These conversions completely converged and concealed the Manor House until it was discovered while under demolition in the 1950s. Saved and restored most of the original manor house was still intact. Paranormal sightings have included a man with a black beard seen forlornly looking out of the windows, a person wearing a black and a grey haired little old woman. In the ladies toilets, reports have been received from children saying that they have seen black pointed shoes peeping out from under a toilet cubicle.

Brief Episode Synopsis

The investigation opened in the restaurant where there used to be a Chapel and Derek picked up on the impression of a fire and being engulfed by flames, as well as a little girl who may have lost her life. Moving onwards into the museum part of the building he connected with a man he described as wearing a cape who he felt had been responsible for a murder. Again Derek picked up on the girl (who he now called Emily) and a fire in the building when he entered the Bed Chamber, and also referenced what he felt to be her grandmother (a woman called Sarah). He also envisioned the fire starting in the fireplace. The team then made their way to the Sealed Room, where Karl and Stuart undertook their first vigil. They experienced a few strange noises and a fall in temperature but nothing significant. A séance was then held with guest David Wells where they attempted to make contact with the little girl Emily, and other than Jon feeling as if he could sense the girl dancing around the circle nothing particularly strange occurred other than a few anomalous sounds. Returning to the Sealed Room the doorway appeared to unlatch itself on two occasions even after the team had thought they’d clearly secured it. Moving on to the ladies toilets, the contagious fear of darkness in enclosed spaces got the better of the team. Firstly Yvette was startled when she felt a spitting sensation on her face only to discover after they had calmed down that she was standing in front of the perfume dispenses which works on a timer. In a fit of laughter the team are then startled for a second time when Richard accidentally sets of the hand-drier. One final vigil in the Sealed Room revealed strange footsteps coming from above, while returning to the Museum Richard was convinced that he had heard footsteps passing outside the door, corroborated by a change in the light as a unknown shadow wandered by. No explanation could be found.
