Chatham Dockyards
CHATHAM, KENT Series 4 Episode 9 First Aired: May 18th 2004 |
|
| Location Background | |
This Naval dockyard was originally built in the 1660s. Historically it is reported that a Dutch Fleet successfully attacked the Docks, with many killed and wounded, while in 1864 the docks were staffed by French prisoners of war. The most well-known of the Chatham Dockyard ghosts is the apparition of a young teenage girl whose image has been seen often in a downstairs window. It is believed that she is waiting for her sailor lover to return from the sea. The ghost of Lord Nelson has also apparently been spotted here, while two other apparitions - one of a woman and the other of a man - apparently haunt the space which used to be a nursery. There are also reports of a ghost of a female supervisor who died in the 1980s who apparently haunts here to ‘encourage’ workers who aren't pulling their weight. People have also claimed to have seen a headless drummer boy and duelling cavaliers. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The walk-around began in the Commissioner’s House where Derek picks up on the energies of a domineering woman. The team then moved upstairs where Derek connects with a number of spirits that could have been linked to poltergeist activity, while a strange clicking was also heard. The team then made their way outside to the Joiner’s Workshop, and during this time a number of unexplained sounds could be heard which left Yvette feeling more than a little uncomfortable. Derek is then apparently possessed by a spirit entity of a soldier who was responsible for a murder, and just prior to this Tom reveals he felt as if something had brushed past him. Derek appears to struggle with the experience and the team quickly bring him around. As the vigils begin Yvette returns to the Workshop with Tom and Richard where they encounter a number of strange rustling and whistling noises along with the shuffling of feet which do create a certain amount of fear, however this could be attributed to the bad weather outside. Meanwhile Karl was undertaking a solo vigil in the Attic where he picked up another light anomaly and there is a sudden bang, however upon investigating the cause it appears that a door may have been caught in a draft. The investigation culminated with a séance in the attic where Derek became possessed by a young boy called Barney who explained how he had been beaten by his carer Lizzie. At this point Derek appears to be taken over by the spirit of this evil woman and begins chastising the crew and spouting abusive language. |
