The Ancient Ram Inn possesses a genuinely chilling aura, and a reputation that is so menacing that many local people won't even walk past it at night. The building is thought to date from around 1145, and served for a time as a priest' s house before converting to an inn. After it closed for business in 1968 John Humphries, the sole living occupant, purchased the building from the brewery. The Inn supposedly contains a number of haunted rooms, including the "Men' s Kitchen" which reputedly stands on the site of a pagan burial ground, and where the disturbing sound of a baby crying is often heard. The most active room is the oppressive and terrifying Bishop' s Room on the first floor. Here activity has included a medium being flung across the corridor, apparitions of a cavalier and 2 monks, the terrifiying screams of a man murdered there, a phantom shepherd & his dog and most notably an incubus (demons that have intercourse with those sleeping there).

The episode began with Derek's walk around, and his early impressions of the building suggested a significant level of activity which he felt was predominantly dark and malevolent. He made an early connection with the Inn's suggested link to the location of an ancient pagan burial ground, sensing mass graves beneath. While the team were downstairs a strange thump was heard from above, which Ciaran and Karl investigated and could find no obvious source. During this time Derek heard a ominous voice, warning them that they should not dare to visit the upper floors. Naturally the crew moved upstairs where he felt the presence of a dark religious figure, taking the form of a monk, who he sensed had previously sent a bishop fleeing from the property (it is believed that the Bishop Of Gloucester had failed at an attempt to exorcise the building some years earlier). Derek then connected with the strong negative energy of a woman who practiced the dark arts, as well as a demonic black cat (this was verified by Psychic Artist Brian Shephard, who had also earlier drawn the image of what he felt was a Witch, and a large black cat). As the vigils began, little occurred at first, although at one point the cameras broadcast only sound and no pictures for a 40 second burst where Derek had sensed a dark presence had joined them. The entire crew felt a sense of foreboding, as if something dark and powerful was in their midst. Many recorded cold spots, and strange sensation of being watched. After Derek underwent a brief possession supposedly by the Witch, they were directed to the Mayflower Barn for the culmination of the episode. Derek, Karl, Jon and Stuart all felt a presence, seeing a strange red light pass across the room and dark shadows in the corners. At this point Stuart was drawn to a passageway where he felt something was present. While stood in the passage Stuart suddenly fell backwards to the floor screaming and shouting while Derek vainly tried to help. This chilling encounter lasted for almost a minute, with Stuart terrified as he felt an unseen force punching and kicking him on the floor. Derek even suggested that he was being pulled back as the crew attempted to get Stuart to safety. In all a thoroughly remarkable encounter.
