Kasteel Doorwerth is an ancient castle located on the border of the Rhine and used to server as a centre of power, government, and administration of justice. In 1260 there was a wooden fortress on the site, which was destroyed by a warlord of the bishop of Utrecht. But 20 years later it had been rebuilt in stone, and was again besieged and plundered. Through its long history it was repeatedly besieged, burnt down, restored and left uninhabited for long periods of time. The most severe destruction happened during and after the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944. Almost 75 percent of the castle was destroyed and again renovation works started and were completed in 1983. Ghosts that are said to exist on the castle ground include the figure of what could possibly a father who cast off his daughter, and locked her up in one of the dungeons. Also a misty apparition has been seen of one of the castellans, who killed his friend because he wanted his wife for his own. Others include an unhappy servant who died of starvation and the ghost of a witch-like woman in a carriage pulled by headless horses |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The episode began in the cellar where Derek connected with the residual energy revealing information about the daughter of a former owner who he felt had been incarcerated for possibly being linked with witchcraft activity in the area. Progressing with the walk-around he also picked up on a fatal conflict between two men over one man's advances towards the other man's wife, as well as an explosion which destroyed the castle in 1944 resulting in the sprits of 2 German officers still roaming the building. Switching to night-vision the team split into a number of small groups, however Karl decided to undertake a solo vigil of the cellar. Initially he heard what sounded like footsteps and could find no obvious source. He then proceeded to ask if there was a presence in the room, and was rewarded with some strange creeks from a bench behind him, which eventually escalated into a continuous stream of loud bangs and raps throughout the cellar. Meanwhile Yvette's group explored the attic where they picked up some anomalous auditory phenomena which almost resembled a synthesised voice. Other anomalous sounds were picked up by Cath's group in the Knight's Hall, where intermittent sounds like horses hooves could be heard from outside. They also picked up a strange sound or voice in response to asking whether any spirits were present. The team then converged on the Hall for a table-tipping experiment which brought interesting results, as the table appeared to vibrate and rock in response to their questions, even when they had all taken their hands away. The investigation concluded with Richard accompanying two of the castle staff around the building, culminating with one of them appearing to be continually possessed by an unknown force, at one point bursting into tears apparently unaware of her actions. During the investigation the team also managed to capture a number of light anomalies. |
