PETTY FRANCE, GLOUCESTERSHIRE Series 6 Episode 10 First Aired: May 24th 2005 |

| Location Background | |
The Manor House was constructed in the late 18th Century during the Napoleonic wars. Previously it is believed to have been a Huguenot settlement during the reign of Henry VIII, while the diarist Parson Woodbridge stayed at the house, as did Jane Austen. In 1800 it was owned by Charles Jenkinson, formerly Baron Hawkesbury and 1st Earl of Liverpool. His son Robert Banks Jenkinson inherited it in 1808, and was Prime Minister for 15 years. The battle of Waterloo occurred during this time and it's thought that Lord Wellington visited the house while it was a hunting lodge. The 1851 census shows two families living there, one being Charles Long with his wife Anne, his children, and 18 servants and their families. In 1925 Lord and Lady Allen Apsley bought the house but in 1942 Lord Apsley was killed in a flying accident. Paranormal activty in the manor has included the figure of a good looking, tall man seen throughout the manor, thought to be Robert Banks Jenkinson. A phantom woman has also been seen walking from the bathroom into the bedroom and the corridor outside the Art Deco room. She may be Robert's mother Amelia, who died giving birth in this room. The spirit of a child has been spotted sitting innocently on the main staircase, while in the attic a sad-faced old lady as been seen sitting quietly on the bed. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
During Derek's walk around he initially sensed the presence of a young girl looking forlornly out of a window in search for her mother. Derek mentioned the year of 1653, however this would have been well before the house was even built. He then referenced 1587/1588 in relation to the master of the house, William Berkeley, who he felt had raped and murdered a young maid in the same attic, however again the dates did not match the history of the building. During the night vision walk around David Wells also connected with the rape of a young girl, however he gave the date of 1912. He also linked in with the name of Emily and a baby who had died in 1895 during childbirth. One notable incident occurred early in the attic when Ciaran picked up an anomalous cold spot on the thermal imaging camera near the window, however he did attribute this possibly to faults within the window seal. The vigils began with Karl and Stuart in the Attic Room undertaking a séance, where apart from feeling cold little activity was recorded. A Séance then took place in the dining room with David, Karl, Stuart and Richard, and here they managed to record faint thuds or taps in response to their questions. Concluding the séance they then performed a sweep of the room to confirm that no other person was present, at which point the Chandelier appeared to start swinging on its own, however the start of this was not captured therefore the possibility of other causes could not be ruled out. In reaction to this apparent phenomena the crew then embarked upon another larger group séance in dining room, where again these faint thuds could be heard in response to questions, appearing to come from underneath the table. David Wells suggested that they had been communicating with Amelia together with an older lady. Despite their attempt to encourage more significant activity, nothing more occurred in the room. |
