Dalston Hall
CARLISLE, CUMBRIA Series 6 Episode 2 First Aired: March 29th 2005 |
|
| Location Background | |
Records describing the building of Dalston Hall refer to the times when the first John Dalston dedicated the Pele Tower to his wife Elizabeth whom he married in 1507, and it is thought that the oldest part of the existing building is the Baronial Hall which dates from about 1500. During the Civil War General David Leslie made his headquarters at Dalston Hall and it was a stronghold for one of the leading Royalists during the Civil War. In 1897 the Hall was bought by Edmund Wright Stead who carried out lots of restoration work. More recently the Hall was used as a private house, farmhouse and youth training centre. It was finally converted into a hotel in 1971. Much activity has been isolated to the Baronial Hall, including a female walking up the stairs, a figure lurking by the iron gate door and an 'entity' that looks like black fog rising up from the floor. Other areas of the building with recorded activity include the Minstrel Gallery overlooking the Hall, Rooms 4, 5, 6 and 7, while apparitions have also been spotted in the cellars as well as the garden. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The episode began with Derek's walkaround in the Baronial Hall where he connects with the presence of both a woman and stangely enough a male dressed as a woman. He sensed that the woman had befallen a tragedy, most likely losing her life in a struggle on the balcony. This was also sensed by David Wells who had earlier felt a woman may have been pushed over the edge to her death. Interestingly the mediums also both independently picked up on children in another room, sensing tragic circumstances where one or more would have died. Prior to the vigils beginning remarkable footage was shown of Stuart and Karl the previous night, where each had stayed in one of the Hotel's notoriously haunted rooms with locked off cameras. On seperate occasions it appears that the televisions in each room turn on by themselves with no apparent explanation, while Stuart was even unable to recall the footage of him being woken by this and reaching for the remote to turn the TV off. The opening vigil saw Stuart alone in the room again, and in response to his early calls a knocking sound could be heard which Staurt likened to a door banging. Upon investigating he found a door to the gents toilets, however nobody was around. On other occasions during the investigation further auditory phenomena was picked up, while a single light anomaly was captured in front of the TV in Room 4. Karl then returned to his room for a solo vigil and intially he sensed a coldness followed by knocking noises, which appeared to be coming from the winding staircase to the Tower. Upon opening the door to the stairwell it became clear that the sounds appeared to be footsteps, and as Karl wrestled with his fears as he eventually found the courage to climb the stairs only to find he was alone. The night concluded with Kath performing glass divination, and although the table and glass appeared to move slightly little else appeared to have occurred, that is until leaving the room Karl noticed the glass was on the bed. No member of the crew recalled moving the glass from the table. |
