The Hollywood Legion
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA Series 6 Episode 26 First Aired: September 20th 2005 |
|
| Location Background | |
The Hollywood Legion was completed in 1929 and its architecture has been described as 'Egyptian Revival-Moroccan Deco', while the building is a Los Angeles Registered Historical Landmark. The hall has always been an American legion post but was also the favourite haunt of local artists, film stars and politicians. Humphrey Bogart was often seen and heard in the basement bar and many films and television commercials have been filmed here. In the memorial shrine bronze plaques show the names of members who have died, these names include Clark Gable and Gene Autrey. Paranormal activity has included what some people describe as a 'helpful ghost' who is often seen by TV and film crews offerring to help out with moving equipment after which he vanishes. In the Stage Area actors have often heard applause coming from the empty auditorium during rehearsals, while in the Downstairs Bar a DJ reported twice seeing an apparition who spoke to him while other visitors have heard loud, unexplained banging noises. In the Atrium Room locals have heard men and women's laughter, as if a man was chasing the woman around the balcony. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The investigation begins with Derek's walk around in the Main Hall where he suggests there is no activity as such but he does link in with the residual energy of film premieres and the conflict between silent movies and new movies with sound. He then moves on to the Bar Area where he suggests a connection with both Rudolph Valentino and Buster Keaton, although Valentino actually died before the Legion had been built. David Wells then begins his walk around initially being drawn to a stairwell where he sensed the recent death of an elderly Janitor or Caretaker who had fallen down the stairs. This was confirmed as in 2000 the elderly Bar Manager Marshall Wyatt had indeed fallen to his death, and was still believed to haunt the building by current manager Terry. David also felt that he roamed the upper levels after which they proceed to the Balcony area. Again David links in with Marshall, believing him to be a happy man who is whistling and would have represented the 'face' of the Legion, while he also senses a 2nd quieter man who he felt would have been a worker there. He also reveals a message for Terry from Marshall suggesting that he should proceed with 'what he needs to do'. This message is relayed to Terry as the team conduct a séance in the Library, where slight knocks are heard coming from the table and cold breezes are felt by some of the team on their fingers. The crew then investigate the Bar Area in an attempt to contact Marshall again, where unexplainably the TV in the corner of the room appears to turn off by itself. The team then decide to undertake a Glass Divination experiment with Terry and Yvette, where the glass appears to move in response to questions to Marshall. Again the TV appears to turn itself off on 2 separate occasions, while the remote control had already been safely stored behind the bar. Terry then suggests that if Marshall can turn the TV back on then he would definitely believe, after which the Television mysteriously turns on again. Ciaran did suggest that infra red camcorders have been known to interfere with televisions, while a bright light anomaly is also captured by Stuart. Finally the team experiment with glass divination in the Bar together with a vigil in Pool Room. Yvette asks if Marshall can move the balls on the table after which a loud clunk is heard from the Pool Room. The team discover the 8 ball on the floor with the number 8 perfectly in the centre. Yvette then asks for a second time for Marshall to move the balls after which another loud knock is heard, and the team find the 8 ball again this time on the floor resting against a nearby doorway. |
