| Location Background | |
The Drum Barracks is the last remaining Civil War military facility in the Los Angeles area. The camp was named after Lt. Colonel Richard Coulter Drum, assistant Adjutant General of the Department of the Pacific who provided major assistance in establishing the facility. Originally called Camp Drum, it served as the Union Army Headquarters in the Southwest from 1861-1871 and was used for Civil War operations from 1861-1865. Construction was completed in 1863 with the original camp consisting of 60 acres containing about 22 buildings. The first commanding officer of the camp was Lt. Colonel James Freeman Curtis. Troops from the barracks kept California in the Union, protected much of the Southwest and protected the territory that is now Arizona and New Mexico for the Union. In 1871 the Camp was closed but it remained in operation as a hospital for two more years. In 1890 the current museum Building was used as a High School for the Wilmington Township, after which it was purchased by Thomas F. Keavany for use as a private residence and boarding home. In 1962 the building was due to be torn down but the citizens of Wilmington saved it. After restoration took place it was opened as a museum in 1987. | Brief Episode Synopsis | |
Derek began his walk around in the Armoury where he connected with the energy of a young soldier who linked with the name Francis. Moving up to the 1st floor he sensed a female spirit presence who he described as graceful of character and slim build. Moving into the bedroom his impressions of this woman continued, picking up on the fragrance of her perfume. Finally he connected with the spirits of two Native Americans in the Parlour believing that they may have been hung in the area however it was revealed that no official records exist of any such event. Meanwhile David Wells linked in initially with a military officer called James who he felt would have been responsible for some poltergeist activity. In the Parlour he connected with a woman who would have referred to her husband as 'Harry' even though he believed his actual name to be James. The night vigils began with Cath and Rachel in the Armoury where they appeared to hear footsteps and experience some unusual audibles, while the battery on their camera appeared to mysteriously drain. Meanwhile Yvette, David, Karl and Richard undertook a séance in the Parlour while Ciaran attempted an experiment by playing the song 'Dixie', which was the theme for the enemy troops, hoping that this would create some activity. David attempted to connect with James, and on occasions the table appeared to vibrate and move although this could not be considered conclusive evidence. David then sensed the presence of children, and upon asking for them to show them a sign, tapping could be heard coming from the table. Ciaran then switched to playing the Unionist hymn 'Battle of the Republic' and more obvious movements were captured from the table. Shortly after David suggested that James had made his way upstairs at which point the girls suggested hearing steps and Rachel became a little overcome by the experience. The remaining vigils brought little else of interest although Yvette did experience strange interference with her microphone, David felt a presence standing close to him and a single light anomaly was also captured in the Parlour. |
