PADSTOW, CORNWALL Series 6 Episode 4 First Aired: April 12th 2005 |
|
| Location Background | |
Prideaux Place is a vast stately home was built on the site of a monastic grange, previously inhabited by the former Barton of the Monks of Bodmin. The house was built by Sir Nicholas Prideaux in the late Tudor period after his family inherited the land in the early part of the sixteenth Century and has been owned and lived in by 14 unbroken generations. Of the house's 46 bedrooms only six are habitable - the rest have been kept just as the American Army left them at the end of WW2 when they stayed there before being dispatched to Omaha Beach on D-Day. Paranormal encounters include a phantom Scullery Boy who is seen in the kitchen and pantry, and witnessed running from one to the other. A 19th Century woman has been spotted sewing in a chair in the morning room, while on the main staircase there have been many sightings of both a green and a grey lady. The green lady is also said to haunt the upstairs landing, the grounds and in a nearby bedroom, and it is thought that she is Honor Fortescue the young wife of Humphrey Prideaux, who threw herself off the balcony at the top of the staircase because she was so distraught at his early death. The Grenville Room is said to carry within it a terrifyingly oppressive atmosphere, and in the upstairs bedroom a guest was convinced that a supernatural dog was growling at him. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
Derek's walkaround begins with him connecting with a man who had been strung from the stairwell, while he also connected with the spirit of a highwayman he believed to be Rik Eedles. He also senses that a pregnant servant girl had committed suicide by falling down the stairs. David Wells however fails to connect with either, otherwise suggesting the murder of a man named Thomas by his brother Rupert and the spirit of a monk in the Park room who had been tortured. Meanwhile Derek makes an astonishing suggestion, believing lost souls would manifest as rabbits and peer in through the downstairs window. In the Panelled Room Derek next senses unfinished business with a documented story of a unfininshed painting pointing to a completed portrait of Sir Nicholas Prideaux. In fact David Wells connects with the correct painting upstairs, that of Lord Brabourne. The vigils began with Karl, Stuart and Derek in the Park Room, where strange noises are heard and Derek senses the highwayman behind the door. Stuart picks up the door creaking and moving slightly while Karl hears a sharp sound coming from the corner of the room. Meanwhile David, Richard and Cath hear a loud audible sigh or moan downstairs, believing this to be a man named John. Then they move upstairs to the Park Room where little initially happens so they leave, however shortly after they hear noises on the stairs leading back to the room. The door appears to be gently swingling open and close on its own and after they return to the room Richard feels as if something has touched him on the neck, while Cath also feels as if something touches her hand. The crew finally gather downstairs where other strange sighs and noises are heard, while during the investigation a number of light anomalies were also captured on film. |
