Lower Well Head Farm
NEWCHURCH-IN-PENDLE, LANCASHIRE Series 6 Episode 6 First Aired: April 26th 2005 |
|
| Location Background | |
It is thought that Lower Well Head Farm was built in the 1500's. Along with the nearby Tynedale Farm, Lower Well Head was allegedly used as a meeting place for the notorious Pendle Witches and their coven during the early seventeenth Century. The Pendle Coven was believed to have been responsible for the murder by witchcraft of seventeen people in and around the forest of Pendle. On Good Friday 1612 an important meeting of the witches, thought to be a 'Sabbat', a major Wiccan festival, took place nearby and many of those who attended were later tried and hanged. Little is known about the history of Lower Well head Farm, but it is believed to have previously been used as a morgue and the pathway adjacent to the farm is referred to as Corpse Way. Footsteps are heard regularly upstairs, and in particular they are said to echo through the building at 6pm on Saturdays. A servant girl in a cloak has been witnessed flitting across the land between the two farms. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
Having previously visited this location as part of Most Haunted Live, there was only a brief walk-around with Derek where he revealed some information about his belief that the upstairs of the farm was once used as a holding place, with many small cells and the resident negative sprit of a jailor - this could not be verified through the historical records. David Wells on the other hand revealed some more traditional information, linking in with a young girl and a small, old woman, Elizabeth, most probably Elizabeth Southerns (aka Demdike). David revealed that Elizabeth remembered Yvette from the previous visit, to which Yvette replied that she was not afraid of her. The vigils began encouragingly with Karl and Stuart appearing to capture a few light anomalies when asking out for them, while Richard and Alex recieved un unknown knock in response to their request for a sign - both in the same upstairs bedroom at different times. Next David, Alex, Rachel and Cath investigated the upper floors, and clearly captured some strange audible phenomenon, similar to a loud scraping sound along the walls. They then attempted glass divination on the wooden floor, which suggested that the coven had returned and intended to do harm. Rachel also believed she felt something warm touching her back. The episode culminated with Yvette suggesting they attempt an automatic writing experiement and volunteering to perform it herself. After a short time she appeared to become agitated as the pen in her hand moved frantically, and she started to show growing signs of discomfort. This culminated in Yvette moaning deliriously, with the team downstairs listening on as Karl attempted to bring her round. In all her disturbing episode lasted little more than 6 minutes, however it was decided to call an end to the investigation. |
