Tynedale Farm
FENCE (NEAR BURNLEY), LANCASHIRE Series 6 Episode 7 First Aired: May 3rd 2005 |
|
| Location Background | |
It is beleived that the building at Tynedale Farm was probably built in approximately 1750 although there was a house on the site dating far earlier. Along with the nearby Lower Well Head Farm, Tynedale was allegedly used as a meeting place for the notorious Pendle Witches and their coven during the early seventeenth Century. The Pendle Coven was believed to have been responsible for the murder by witchcraft of seventeen people in and around the forest of Pendle. On Good Friday 1612 an important meeting of the witches, thought to be a 'Sabbat', a major Wiccan festival, took place nearby and many of those who attended were later tried and hanged. Tynedale Farm is now owned by the Nutter family, descendents of Alice Nutter, one of the Pendle Witches executed in 1612. An apparition of a monk is frequently seen in the area surrounding the farm while a hooded figure has been seen kneeling by the road outside. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The episode began as usual with Derek's walk around, believing that the witches would return to make their presence known. Initially the investigation had only got underway when Yvette suggested that she was feeling unwell, having to take an early break. Derek later connected with information in the cellar regarding one of the coven, who would use raw meat to make sculptures of her victims. David Wells also suggested that he felt the presence of the coven, believing Elizabeth Demdyke had returned, at one point momentarily bursting into the cellar as if to check upon the group. The opening vigil saw Richard, Yvette and Jon Gilbert attempting to make contact by asking for signs that a spirit was present, which in turn produced a number of noises, the most interesting of which appeared to sound like a large stone or rock falling to the floor. The team then converged on the Lounge to undertake glass divination similar to the infamous Live event. Before commencing Yvette challenged any spirit that was present to make themselves known by possibly moving one of the light fittings which hung from the ceiling. At this point a smashing sound could be heard from the adjoining room, where they found the remains of a broken light bulb on the floor. Ciaran however confirmed that he had previously taken photographic evidence that no bulb was connected to the light in that room, leaving the incident a mystery. Shortly after the team began the divination experiment, and as the glass began to move more prominently, Derek appeared to lose his balance when leaning back in his chair as the glass shifted off the table, and he found himself falling to the floor. He suggested feeling a sharp blow to his stomach as if being pushed back, however it could also be implied that he simply lost his bearings and toppled backwards. While attending to Derek the locked off camera in the room did also appear to pick up a number of unusual light anomalies. The team returned to continue divination with David Wells, which brought further movement of the glass, however of greater interest was Karl's negative reaction, suggesting that he felt angry, bored and unenthused by the whole experience. |
