Sutton House
HACKNEY, LONDON Series 9 Episode 10 First Aired: March 6th 2007 |
|
| Location Background | |
Sutton House was built in 1535 by Sir Ralph Sadleir and by the 1750s the building had been split to form two separate houses. Condemned as unsafe in the 20th century, the building underwent a programme of extensive refurbishment during which time some of the original stone fireplaces were exposed, a lot of the beautiful Tudor oak panelling was revealed, and a new barn extension was created at the back of the house. When the National Trust acquired the site in 1938, tenants once again occupied the house, renamed Sutton House in 1953. There are reports of poltergeist activity, prevalent at the property. Staff report sudden drops in temperature, doors of cabinets open on their own accord and objects including candles fly across rooms unaided. Wailing Dogs and ' The White Lady' have been heard and spotted at Sutton House. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The Most Haunted team are joined on this investigation by celebrity Lee Ryan. David Wells' walk around reveals some interesting information in the Cellar Chapel, where he links with the residual energies of 2 men fighting, which he feels might cause some poltergeist activity even though their spirits are not active. He then connects with a male energy, who is joined by a number of large dogs - he feels that he would have treated them as if they were his children. He senses the man's name is John and correctly identifies that he would have worked in the cloth or woollen industry. Cath and Karl then suggest that they hear faint whining noises, believing that this might be the dogs, although it is very inconclusive. The vigils begin with Yvette and Lee in the Chapel, which for the most part is uneventful. Meanwhile in the Panelled Room Cath suggests that she feels something grabbing her around the waist, and then feels something on her head. Unfortunately this is all subjective experience and of no paranormal significance. The team then re-group for a séance, where they attempt table-tipping which does appear to be relatively successful, but without controlled conditions it is difficult to consider such activity as truly paranormal. Lee then places his scarf on the table and the team leave it in the hope that when they return it might have moved - which apparently it does. But, again, without a locked off camera monitoring such movement the experiment has to be disregarded. The team are then apparently exposed to stone throwing, while as the investigation comes to an end Lee's scarf is suggested to appear out of nowhere and land on Yvette, although nothing is captured on camera. |
