MATLOCK BATH, DERBYSHIRE Series 9 Episode 12 First Aired: March 20th 2007 |
|
| Location Background | |
The Pavilion at Matlock Bath in Derbyshire was once the grand setting of The Pump Room where day trippers came to take the waters and enjoy tea dances. The location is now home to a Mining Museum and Night Club and scene of reported ghostly apparitions and poltergeist activity. The building was built on the site of the stables of the Fishpond Hotel by German labourers and called the Kursaal. There are stories of one of the labourers falling to his death from the scaffolding. The Pavilion has had many uses including a roller skating rink and a billet for soldiers during the war. The building was also the pump room for the town and spring waters would be pumped up into the area that is now the mining museum. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The night begins as ever with David Wells and his walk around where he initially picks up on children giggling. David is not sure why the children are here and describes how he finds it difficult to interact with them. He also connects with a male energy who 'stomps his feet' and who David feels is aggressive towards women. He feels that this male was crushed to death in an accident, and is aged between 36 and 37 years old. On the gym stairs the team hear lots of unknown banging sounds, while a "wheezing" noise is also heard. Yvette later also hears a breathing sound which is picked up by the microphones. David then connects with a female energy named Beth, who he believes is linked to the year 1885, and she appears to be dancing. He also links in with a Miner called Robert who he feels moves at speed throughout the property. Moving to the Ground floor Pump room David again connects with Robert, and he visualises that his is very dirty. The vigils begins with Karl and Stuart investigating the gym stairs, where they hear a groaning sound. Meanwhile Yvette claims to hear a rustling sound. Cath, Karl and Stuart move on to investigate the "dome" where they claim that the trap door they came through becomes locked behind them, and appears to be vibrating. As they appear to be trapped behind the door they are forced to phone for another crew member to alert the team to their plight. A number of objects then appear to be thrown and a light bulb explodes for no apparent reason, although as is typically the case nothing is captured on film and therefore nothing can be verified as paranormal. Finally the crew them move on to the mining museum, where little activity takes place with the exception of a suggestion that the carpet begins to vibrate. |
