Hever Castle
EDENBRIDGE, KENT Series 9 Episode 13 First Aired: March 27th 2007 |
|
| Location Background | |
Hever Castle in Kent has been inextricably linked to the doomed relationship of King Henry VIII and Anne Bolelyn. Visitors have reported the Queens’ Chamber to be ‘busy’ despite the room being empty. Ladies sitting at tables have been sighted. A threatening presence has been felt at the far end of the Long Gallery. It is traditionally thought that this is the spirit of a priest who was trapped in the priest hole in the north-west corner of the castle. Hever Castle houses historic 16th century portraits, furniture and tapestries. Other artefacts include two magnificent Books of Hours (prayer books), both signed and inscribed by Anne Boleyn. A costumed figure exhibition in the Long Gallery adds to the atmosphere. The newly presented Council Chamber in the 13th century gatehouse contains recently acquired swords and armour which have been added to the existing collections of historic instruments of execution, torture and discipline. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The most haunted team are joined by guest medium Johnnie Fiori for the investigation of Hever Castle. The night begins with David Wells' walk around, where initially he picks up on very little activity, however reveals that he strangely senses the energies of a horse on the second floor, as well as spirit children along one of the corridors. Stuart then suggests that he hears a woman’s voice saying the name "Stella" although this is not picked up on the footage, and is therefore unable to be verified. David eventually links in with the name "Maria Clifford" while Yvette claims she hears tapping coming from one of the rooms. This is followed by a number of anomalous knocks and bangs, the source of which is unknown but Yvette believes it is coming from under her feet. The vigils begin with a séance in the Minstrels Gallery where initially all begins quietly after which the table starts to creak. Karl and Stuart then investigate the Anne of Cleeves room, where once more there is little activity of note however a groaning sound is eventually picked up on sound. The crew make one final attempt to make contact with the supposed spirit of a priest, believed to be trapped in the priest hole in the north-west corner of the castle, which is unsuccessful. The night concludes with Karl undertaking a lone vigil, where his own nerves appear to get the better of him. |
