| Location Background | |
In 1824 William Laird, a Scottish entrepreneur, moved to Merseyside to find his fortune. He set up a boiler making works on the south bank of the Wallasey Pool with Daniel Horton. In 1828, this partnership was dissolved and William was joined by his son, John Laird. And renamed William Laird & Son. He realised the possibility of expanding into iron shipbuilding. Lairds first vessel was a 60ft prefabricated iron lighter built in 1829 In 1857 Laird opened a huge 20 acre site including five dry docks. This site still forms the core of the current yard and in 1858 an engine building was added. In 1860, John was joined by his sons William, John and Henry Laird. The firm was renamed John Laird, Sons & Co. Between 1829 and 1947 more than 1100 vessels were launched into the River Mersey. The main office was built in the 1960’s for Polaris 1976, the construction hall was built. The construction hall is so high that hot air balloonists test their balloons in here. The shipyard was often a very dangerous place to work and it’s known that there have been many deaths here over the years due to accidents. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The night begins with David's walk around where he connects with 2 figures in the boardroom, described as a female energy who walks up and down the corridor and a 'portly' well dressed man. Moving upstairs to the 1st floor offices he strangely connects with a male spirit by the name of Graham who he feels had been killed more recently in a hit and run accident and returns to the offices to draw attention to the fact that the person responsible, who may have worked there, was never reprimanded. The team hear a few knocking sounds, but nothing conclusive. Moving to the shipbuilding hall David links with an older man named George, possibly a former employee, who had suffered a horrific accident in which half of his head had 'caved in'. Finally the walk around reaches another set of offices, where the team suggest seeing a figure next to David on the Thermal Imager, however this is clearly his reflection on the nearby walls. The vigils begin with a séance in the 1st floor offices where shadows are witnessed and Karl suggests being touched by an icy hand. After some slight table movement the team suggest a connection with the man who might have killed Graham, at which point a filing cabinet (off camera) falls to the floor. As nothing is captured on film it can only be deduced that this was accidentally knocked by one of the team in the dark. A number of faint taps follow suggesting that this was indeed the car driver. Yvette and Ciaran then investigate the offices alone, and Yvette asks for any spirits present to knock over a tea-cup on a nearby trolley. Meanwhile John Gilbert and Ian are in another location where they coincidentally experience a tea cup falling on the floor. Karl and Stuart then investigate the shipbuilding hall where footsteps and another object is apparently thrown, after which Karl suggests seeing David walking across the hall - later investigation seemed to indicate that David was in the crew room at the time. The investigation concludes in the shipbuilding hall as all the team congregate for one last vigil. A small cylindrical object appears to be thrown (off camera) while a loud crashing sound is heard, believed to be a loose metal door, although again this is not captured directly on film. This is then followed by suggestions of footsteps coming towards and past the group, although this is not picked up by the sound equipment. |
