Beaulieu Abbey
BEAULIEU, HAMPSHIRE Most Haunted Live Episode 5 First Aired: October 31st 2003 |
Halloween 2003
|
| Location Background | |
Beaulieu Abbey was founded in 1204 by Cistercian monks on land given to them by King John. Although much was destroyed at the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries during the reign of Henry VIII, the Abbey is still reputed to be one of Britain's most haunted places. Strange apparitions have been seen, heard and sensed here for over a hundred years, with ghostly monks, strong smells of incense and a Grey Lady thought to be Isabella, Countess Beaulieu, who died in 1786. |

| Brief Episode Synopsis | |
The investigation begins in the grounds of the old Abbey where Derek immediately connects with the name Brother Simon, believing that he wished to reveal the truth about the mystery surrounding the murder of a fellow monk. Derek then connects with the energies of the murderer, believing that he is a tormented soul who materialises as a dark shadow and moves at speed within the grounds. He suggests that the date 1347 is relevant and that the murder took place away from the Abbey in some out-buildings and the victim, a fellow monk, was poisoned first and then brought to the site where a hole was made in his skull and a crown thrust upon his head in order to create this mystery. He was then buried, possibly encased in lead, close to the wall. The team then move onto the Palace House where Derek links in with two female energies, one of which was a maid who he felt had accidentally fallen, and the other a regal lady belonging to the house. He then reveals this lady to be Countess Isabella Beaumont (her actual name was Beaulieu). Derek's concentration is briefly broken as he experiences the conditions of a man whose wrists have been cut off and whose neck has been slashed. He then experiences the energy of another monk, Brother Augustus, as the crew move into the room at the top of the stairs. At this point Yvette hears a noise as Derek describes the monk moving across the room. Shortly afterwards, off camera, the team suggest that they have heard heavy footsteps in the area above this room. The next location is the Parish Church, where Derek links in with the name Brother John and also a clergyman who returns in visitation and for whom the date 1756 is particularly relevant. The team then return to the Palace House to undertake a séance, before which Derek senses the energies a man named Edward Beaumont (again, most probably Beaulieu). Yvette also suggests that she can clearly smell the scent of candles, as if they has recently been blown out. During the séance Derek appears to undergo a possession state by Edward, revealing that he was 63 years old. Finally the team investigate the Domus, where a few days earlier heavy footsteps had been recorded when the room had been locked off. During the night a motion detector guarding a trigger object experiment had gone off a number of times, however this could be attributed to the movements of the web cam directly opposite. Here Derek senses secrecy, and again the name Brother John who he feels is responsible for the footsteps. He again experiences the conditions of having his hands cut off and his neck slashed believing this monk to be in torment due to the gruesome nature of his death. At the conclusion of the show it is revealed that the name associated to the murderer of the fellow monk in the Abbey grounds was Brother David. |
