Matthew Hopkins is perhaps the most famous of the witch finders of 17th century Britain. During his career as Witch-finder General, Hopkins had between 200 and 400 people executed for witchcraft. This reign of terror began in Manningtree, Essex, in 1644. Old one-legged Elizabeth Clarke was the first victim of Hopkins' search for enemies of God. While not strictly guilty of torture, Hopkins and his minions used trickery and sleep deprivation to secure confessions. As the carnage continued some Villages would not allow him to enter, and as resentment grew against his methods his reputation was eventually ruined leading to his eventual demise.

The Most Haunted Team embarked upon their second 3-Night extravaganza in search for the spirit of Witch-Finder General Matthew Hopkins. The opening night saw them visiting St. Nicholas Church, a 15th Century church in Canewdon. Little of any significance occurred other than one of the standing lights falling over of its own accord as well as the sound of the church door banging. Derek also picked up on a number of Witches whose spirits apparently still haunt the church’s graveyard. The second night of the investigation took the team to Manningtree where the only thing of real note that happened was Yvette sinking into the mud of nearby Seafield Bay. The three days concluded with a visit to Mistley Towers which stand as the remains of a church designed by Robert Adam and built in 1776. Here the team experienced the odd strange sound occurred during the séance that took place in one of the towers. The evening concluded with a visit to the Thorn Hotel in Mistley where Derek appeared to undergo a deep possession by a violent and badmouthed entity, becoming aggressive toward Yvette and showing signs that he was not happy in the presence of woman. Derek also suffered a second regression before the evening came to an end, however this was not captured during live transmission.
